Tamara Dean

PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST

For as long as I can remember I have yearned to be in nature. When I enter a forest I feel as though I have come home. This deep love of nature informs my life and my art practice.
I am an Australian artist working in the fields of photography and installation. My work explores the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Along with my two dimensional photographic prints, more recently I have been creating tangible, sensory experiences around my works as in my 2018 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art installation ‘Stream of Consciousness’ and 2016 UNSW installation ‘Here-and-Now’. Both multi-sensory installations, these works are exciting conceptual developments in my practice and reflect contemporary photography’s emergent and expanding fields.
I delve into the informal rites of passage and experiences that people seek out in nature and create symbolically charged works which aim to bridge the separateness that we as humans create between us and nature.
